Annabelle Taubl on Debussy’s Danses
Last month, I had the opportunity to play one of the greatest pieces in the harp repertoire – the Debussy Danses – with this talented group. Never having played the piece without the aid of a conductor, and knowing the importance of the fluid yet abrupt tempo and motif changes in Debussy’s music, I was a bit concerned that it would be difficult to perform. Especially considering the limited number of rehearsals we were able to have!
With great relief, I realized that I was worrying too much. Highline not only locked in with one another, but gave me the freedom to relax and express my interpretation of one of my favorite pieces.
I had the pleasure of experiencing the show not only from the stage, but also from the sold-out audience. Their enthusiasm was unmistakable! It was hard to believe that this newly formed group could produce a show so well done, complete with innovative programming, stunning visual effects, and cohesive playing.
