Omid Malekan began his creative career making music videos for songs that he loved and posting them on Youtube. Early viral successes included videos for the music of The Band, Jay-Z and Phoenix. He then began creating funny educational cartoons, the most successful of which was a 7 minute video of two bears criticizing the Federal Reserve. Much to his surprise, the cartoon managed several million hits in its first week and resulted in an exciting 15 seconds of fame. It also lead to a brief stint as an editorial animator for the New York Times, but Omid was quickly fired in a blaze of Orwellian censorship (or, alternatively, because the audience didn’t like his cartoons). Omid’s favorite creative activity is making videos that accentuate the works of other artists. Some of his work for the Highline can be seen in the Visuals section of our site. His other creations can be found at www.omidmalekan.com.
Omid also helps out with the setting up and execution of each Highline show, and is our backstage director when the rest of us are performing up front. When he is not making videos, Omid is a landlord and a personal trainer.
